The Shirebrook Miners Welfare Training or 'B' Band is for people who have either just started playing an instrument or have an interest in playing in a brass band.

Our practice night is Tuesday at 7pm in Shirebrook Miners Welfare.

The B band offers individual and group tuition to those learning to play an instrument, this is run alongside the bands rehearsal time and gives these players a chance to play with people at the same level.

At each rehearsal the training musicians are welcomed to play selected pieces they have been rehearsing with the rest of the B band so they can hear how all the instruments sound in a piece of music.

We welcome players of any age, both children and adults who wish to play a brass instrument and play a good selection of traditional brass band and modern music.

Why not come down to a rehearsal on a Tuesday evening? You will be made to feel most welcome.

On Saturday 13th June we were in Elmton, Derbyshire where we played for the Well Dressing ceremony. We performed an outdoor concert too which was very well received. The beautiful village was part of the National Open Gardens Scheme which raises money for charity. It was a lovely afternoon with gorgeous weather and the band had a wonderful time.

On Saturday 30th we performed at the Bolsover Assembly Rooms before a full house of around 80 people. We played for 45 mins as a warm-up to a performance of a one-man play called, 'Fred at the pit baths' at the Caphouse Colliery in Wakefield and using experiences at the coal mine and the communities in the area.

This was moving and humerous too.

We had a great assortment of music including a wonderful Euphonium solo by Arron called ' Sailing into the blue' written for him by Neil Jones. Karen Bishton played a lovely trombone solo, 'Wonderful night'.

We also enjoyed a BBQ!
